A closer look at one program that is truly making a difference

Over the next two weeks, our Rotary lunch programs will highlight some of the inspiring things that are going on at Coon Rapids High School. As many of you know, our club has taken a keen interest in youth and we partnered with the school to address important needs, especially in the area of social development. In 2016, Coon Rapids Rotary with the generous support of the BNSF Foundation, helped underwrite the Youth Frontiers Respect Retreat program for incoming 9th graders. Last fall, the event was continued (also with support from the BNSF Foundation) and it is our hope to be involved in similar efforts in the future. We'll learn about the tie-in between the YF Respect Retreat and the on-going CRHS Kindness Campaign on April 30th.
In the meantime, there is another shining example of resurgence at CRHS: the school's Center for Biomedical Sciences and Engineering program, which is growing in both popularity and success. On Monday, April 23rd the club will get to meet some of the faculty to learn about this important program. As someone who has had a chance to meet this group before, you will come away very impressed. We will bring in lunch boxed lunches for those who RSVP'd last week. We do ask that you show up between noon and 12:10 p.m. so that we can start the program on time. You can park in the lot along Northdale and use the main entrance. For more information on CRHS, check out their website:
The following is a list of announcements for this week. If you know of a community event that should be posted, please contact Grant Fernelius.
New Member Welcome: Khou Yang
Last week the club board approved the membership application of Khou Yang. Khou is an insurance agent for the Oakwood Insurance Agency in Coon Rapids. We will plan a formal presentation of her Rotary membership pin and name badge in the next couple of weeks. We are very excited to welcome Khou to the Coon Rapids Rotary family!

Twin Cities Rotaract Fundraiser
Twin Cities Rotaract is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a fundraising event on April 25th from 6PM-8PM at the Summit Brewery in St. Paul. The event is being co-hosted with Rotary District 5960 and all proceeds go to the Books for Africa project. Twin Cities Rotarct is geared to young professionals (age 18-35) who are engaged in local and global service to Rotary.
Our club is now qualified to participate in the Rotary International and District 5960 Grant programs for the upcoming 2018-2019 Rotary program year. The process starts with initial concept proposals, which are due in May. Projects can be global or local in nature. If this is something of interest to a club member, please contact Grant Fernelius.
