OTHER NEWS

Greetings Club Members,

I hope you're all doing well this week and are enjoying the new Weekly Bulletin that has been produced by Jeff Athmann.  Jeff is doing a great job and I very much appreciate his efforts to take the reigns of this important communications tool.  I wanted to share a few updates for this week:

BOARD MEETING REMINDER

This Monday (7/16) at 11AM we will have our monthly board meeting.  All members are welcome to attend.

RAPIDS SAMPLER PLANNING UNDERWAY

This past Tuesday we held our first planning meeting for the 2018 Rapids Sampler (October 4th).  Among the issues we discussed is changing the format to eliminate the silent and live auctions and replacing those activities with additional raffle and gaming opportunities.  We also plan to discontinue the Peddle Pub, but provide some new entertainment options (i.e. bean bag toss).  We will need to start gathering beer and wine items for our games, so start bringing those in to our weekly meetings.

Special thanks to Doris Schulte, Jeff Athmann, Matt Stemwedel, Bob Hylland, Erik Hegg, Annette Ziegler, Tim Anderson and Nick Bednarczyk for attending and offering to take on assignments.  The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 17th (3:00 PM) at City Hall.  We will shift to Mondays after that date, but can't next week due to the club board meeting.

ROTARY RACE DAY TO SUPPORT POLIO PLUS

This week we received word from incoming District Governor, Mike Becker, about Rotary Race Day to be held on Friday, August 10th at Canterbury Park (Silks Party Area) in Shakopee.  This is a special event for Rotarians (including family and friends) in Districts 5960 and 5950.  Gates open at 5:30 PM and live racing starts at 6:30 PM.  Tickets are $10 and include admission, a hotdog and soda.  All funds raised will go toward Polio Plus.  If you are interested, let me know.  I have to order the tickets on-line in advance.

MIKE BECKER, DISTRICT GOVERNOR (5960)
Visit planned for September 24th

Mike Becker, 5960 District Governor (2018-2019)

Each year the new District Governor (DG) visits the 60+ clubs that are part of our district (#5960), which comprises most of the east metro and portions of western Wisconsin.  The annual visit is a tradition that was started in the early 1980's and continues to this day.   Most DG's try to complete their rounds in the first six months of their term.

Mike Becker was installed as the new DG this past June and is a member of the Greater Rochester Rotary Club.  As part of his visit, Mike would like to meet with our Club Board beforehand (time pending) to share what is going on at the district level and hear about what our club is doing locally.  He will then provide an update to the full club as part of our lunch program on September 24th.

Thanks again for all that you do in serving and inspiring others!
